Do I need a GPU?
A dedicated GPU with 4GB VRAM is recommended for the best experience. Local LLMs run fastest on a GPU. If you use a CPU or have insufficient VRAM, RenameClick will use your system RAM, which is roughly 10-20x slower.
How fast does renaming work?
Processing speed depends heavily on your GPU: the more powerful the graphics card, the faster RenameClick can analyze files. The default local model is intentionally small, so you should not expect miracles from it. It handles the vast majority of renaming and sorting tasks well, but some specialized workflows need a smarter and larger model. Yes. RenameClick is offline-first: local AI runs on your device and works without an internet connection. If you choose cloud providers (OpenAI, Google AI, or Alibaba Cloud Qwen 3.5 Flash), those features require internet and your own API keys.
