How is Mumble different from others (like Otter, Fireflies, or Granola)?
Most meeting tools send a bot to your call or only work in the cloud. Mumble is different: no bot joins your call, both cloud and local AI models are available, it offers system-wide dictation and voice notes in one app, and produces rich meeting output with live transcripts, AI summaries, and action items.
Does a bot join my meeting?
No. Mumble captures audio directly from your Mac. No bot joins as an extra participant in your call. Mumble auto-detects meetings from your Google Calendar or from meeting apps already running on your Mac, and records in the background.
Does Mumble offer a local mode?
Yes. Local mode runs AI models directly on your Mac. Your audio is processed on-device and never transmitted anywhere. It works fully offline, with unlimited usage. Mumble supports 43 languages with speaker labels and AI summaries.
Is my data safe?
Data safety is a core priority. Your recordings are stored locally on your device. In local mode, nothing ever leaves your Mac. In cloud mode, audio is encrypted in transit and at rest, used only for transcription, and never shared with third parties or used to train AI models.
Does Mumble offer a free plan?
Yes. During the beta, Mumble is completely free with no limits. After beta, local mode stays free forever. Cloud mode will include a generous free tier, with paid plans for advanced features and heavier usage. No credit card required.
Which platforms does Mumble support?
Mumble is a Mac app requiring macOS 14+ and Apple Silicon (M1 or newer). It works with any meeting platform including Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Slack. Dictation works in any text field. A full-featured iOS app is also available.
